About: |
Jerry was trained as a research physicist. To de-stress from long bureaucratic days, he began teaching himself pottery on evenings and weekends, and found the interplay between his hands and the wet clay to be soothing and rejuvenating – in some sense a return to his original love of unhurried exploration of the physical world. He also pursues gardening and catch-and-release fly-fishing.
Jerry’s current ceramics focus is on functional pottery in large organic shapes. During the throwing process, he likes to experiment with ways to extend the clay’s form beyond its normal mechanical limits. He is particularly entranced by the special type of beauty realized when the form of a piece is exquisitely tuned to its function, and likes to explore reactive glaze combinations. He works in stoneware in cone 6 oxidation and occasionally in cone 10 reduction. |
